Swedish car manufacturer Volvo was founded in 1927 by Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larsson. The company was established on a background of safety and quality, a concept that has elevated Volvo's reputation today, now thought by some to be unrivalled when it comes to producing vehicles which are at the forefront of the latest technology, reliability, safety features and eco-friendly engines. Each vehicle in the current Volvo range has received the full five-stars from safety regulator EuroNCAP.
In 1959 a Volvo engineer invented the three point safety belt, now found in almost every road car on the road, this was a world first and just the start of Volvo's safety innovations. Volvo felt that this would save so many lives that they opened up their patent in order for any manufacturer to use it in their design. They decided that the invention was so significant that it gained more value as a free life saving aid than something to profit from. An act still applauded to this day.
