According to Kia Motors, the name "Kia" derives from the Sino-Korean characters ki ("to come out") and a (which stands for (East) Asia), it is roughly translated as "to come out of the east."
Kia was founded in 1944, manufacturing steel tubing and bicycle parts, eventually producing Korea's first bicycle in 1951. In 1952, Kyungsung Precision Industry changed its name to Kia Industries, and later built Honda licensed small motorcycles and Mazda licensed trucks and cars. In 1973 the company opened its first automotive assembly plant. Starting in 1986 in partnership with Ford, Kia produced several Mazda-derived vehicles for both domestic sales in South Korea and for export into other countries. Since 2005, Kia has focused on the European market and has identified design as its "core future growth engine" leading to the hiring of Peter Schreyer in 2006 as chief design officer and his subsequent creation of a new corporate grille commonly known as the 'Tiger Nose'.
We have a great selection of Kia cars available at affordable rates for business or personal lease. Kia’s range of quality vehicles includes the ever popular Sportage, which compares very favourably with European rivals or the stylish and Niro Hybrid models or the impressive Sorento station wagon proving to be one of the most popular leasing options.
The Sportage has long been Kia’s best-selling car by a considerable margin, but 2018 is the first time a Kia has appeared in the top 10 UK new car sales chart, a testament to how far the manufacturer has come.
